What is Udyam Registration?

Udyam registration is for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to get recognised by government, launched by Union MSME Ministry on July 1, 2020. This registration provides an identity to MSMEs which helps in accessing government support and benefits. After successful registration, you receive Udyam registration certificate with unique Udyam Registration Number (URN). This registration replaces old MSME and Udyog Aadhaar registration process introduced by Government of India. Before business required to register under MSME or Udyog Aadhaar separately, but registration has been merged into single system called Udyam registration.

Who can apply for Udyam registration?

Any business with investment of up to 50 crore and turnover up to 250 crore can apply. This includes:

Proprietorship firms

A business owned and managed by two or more partners.

Private Limited Companies

Limited Liability Partnership (LLP)

Eligibility Criteria

Before, MSME classification had much lower limits for investment and turnover. From April 1, 2025, investment limits have been increased to 2.5 crore and turnover limits have been doubled. This allows larger and growing businesses to continue being classified as MSMEs and keep access of benefits such as easier credit, subsidies and legal support.
